  1. The phrase “Comrade Ogilvy” comes to mind.
And Wurmbrand’s “The Communists like their Heroes of the USSR to be dead. That way they’re not around to contradict their Official Story”.

  2. John,
I won’t disagree with you there, but I still doubt that there will be any earth-shaking finds which embarrass the Grahams. I would guess that liberal historians have already scoured the archives trying to find more links to Dick Nixon or anything else they can use to editorialize on Billy’s associations.

  3. James: Your response here shows very little understanding of how historians work. New “finds” in the archives happen every now and then, but historians often read (and re-read) documents in search of new interpretations. All history is revisionist in this regard.

  4. I don’t know if there are documents in the library which have not been read by now. Dr. Fea listed all of the scholarly visits already made. It was in the thousands. I doubt that there is a seriously injurious document lurking in a hidden box, but I may be wrong. Franklin should not be sweating an unpleasant discovery regardless of the location of the archives.

This whole matter is probably as simple as Franklin and his sister wanting to increase the prestige and expansion of their existing facility.

  5. Not so much Conspiracy as it would be to Franklin’s advantage to control access to his father’s archives. That way he can redefine the past and make Billy agree with Franklin on everything. (“HAIL TRUMP!”)

Towards the end of Billy Graham’s life, his name started popping up on various Culture War Manifestos coming out of his ministry. There was a lot of speculation that Franklin may have been writing said Manifestos and just having Billy sign off by handing him a stack of papers or just going for a quickie signoff without giving Billy time to read what he was signing.

In M*A*S*H the TV series, Colonel Blake’s orderly “Radar” was infamous for bootlegging his boss’s signature that way; and in the 1981 TV movie The Bunker, Reichsminsister Speer uses a similar ruse to get a Fuehrer signature countermanding the Scorched Earth Fuehrer’s Order that would have resulted in the death of most of the German population.

  6. I wonder whether transferring the archives are to keep them under the control of Franklin so that nothing can exist that conflicts with the Official Story. Franklin was suspected of doing a Radar-and-Colonel-Blake to get his father’s signature on all those Billy Graham Culture War Manifestos…
