This morning the York (PA) Daily Record is running a great piece on a video series titled “A Yorkie in Time.” It is the brainchild of Sarah Crawford, a Central York High School graduate and a sophomore at Syracuse University who is passionate about the history of York County.
Here is a taste of Jim McClure’s piece on Crawford:
If you attend presentations about local history, you’ll notice that most attendees are maybe 40 years in age and above.
How do we involve young people in local history?
Well, when York countian Sarah Crawford, a Syracuse University sophomore, asked about doing a video series this summer on local history topics, YDR engagement editor Scott Fisher and I jumped at the opportunity.
Sarah is now working on the third of five topics in that series. She has undertaken light-hearted video looks at the Articles of Confederation and the York County Heritage Rail Trail.
Her video on state and county parks is in production. And she has challenging production work ahead on two vastly different topics – the York race riots of 1968-69 and York County’s spooky history.
