Well, I made it to New Orleans for the AHA conference with plenty of time to spare for tonight’s opening session. If the Internet connection in the Marriott cooperates, I will try to tweet William Cronon’s session. Stay tuned.

I am happy to be safely situated in a non-conference hotel that will go unnamed. As it turns out, I happened to pick the hotel where all the disappointed Florida Gator fans
are staying. To be honest, it is refreshing to be surrounded by college football fans instead of the usual historians–you can pick them out from a mile away walking down Canal Street. And tomorrow, when I put on my blazer and khaki pants (my students call it “the uniform”) I will be one of them!
