J.L. Bell on Assassin’s Creed 3

It is good to have a historian talking about these kinds of things.  Bell was recently interviewed about Assassin’s Creed 3, a video game set in revolutionary-era Boston. The game focuses on a character named Connor Kenway, a patriot with native American roots who fights violently for justice against the British “Red Coats” occupying the city.  (No such person ever existed). The creators of the game claim that the background is based on 18th century maps.

According to Bell, the historical backdrop to the video game looks pretty accurate, but it also has some historical problems.  It also contains a lot of violence and dead British soldiers.
