Messiah College: A Force to be Reckoned With In Bass Fishing

I had no idea that Messiah College, the school where I teach American history, had a bass fishing team. I learned today reading https://www.reelchase.com that we do not only have such a team, but that they are pretty good. In fact, they just finished in second place at something called the “National Guard FLW College Fishing Northern Division Regional Championship” held this past weekend on the Potomac River. It looks like they were just edged out by the team from the University of West Virginia. Not bad!

So let’s sum up some recent Messiah College sports history:

Men’s Soccer: 2009 NCAA Division III National Champions. (To go with their 2008 national championship and five others in the late ten years).

Women’s Soccer: 2009 NCAA Division III National Champions. (To go with their 2008 and 2005 national championships).

Women’s Track and Field: Kristen Bates wins her third consecutive NCAA Division III national championship in the 100-meter hurdles.

Women’s Softball: 2008 NCAA Division III National Champions

Women’s Field Hockey: 2009 NCAA Division III runner-up. (To go with seven other appearances in the NCAA Championship game in recent years).

Men’s Club Volleyball: 2008 NIRSA Division II National Champions

Chris Heisey makes his Major League debut with the Cincinnati Reds.

Men’s Bass Fishing: Second place in the National Guard FLW College Fishing Northern Division Regional Championship

Not too shabby!
